IS 473 Holocaust Memory, Memorials, and Heritage Sites

This course introduces students to the roles that museums, historic sites, and monuments play in teaching about the Holocaust and in building popular memory. We examine the methodologies used to convey the history of the Holocaust and to build ‘memories’ across time and cultural divides. While this course will delve into historical events, its content exists at the intersection of anthropology, history, psychology, sociology, political science, and geography. If the course is taken for undergraduate credit, it cannot be used for graduate credit.
