SPAN 401 Introduction to English-Spanish Translation
This course is an introduction to English-Spanish translation and an advanced-grammar review, taught in Spanish, in accordance with the American Translators Association guidelines. The course offers an overview of different translation techniques, and fundamental concepts, set alongside a professional-development practicum in the context of a community-engagement project. Students will leave the course with a professional portfolio that includes: a set of professional documents; examples of their translation work; and experience with community engagement via translation services. Such a portfolio demonstrates students’ capacities for cross-cultural translation, reading, thinking, and writing, as culturally competent, global citizens.
